shochu
Shochu is a kind of alcohol made either from potatoes or rice. Recently the potato variety has gotten very popular. The picture above is the ‘cheap’ stuff… I mean, really, FOUR liters? And you don’t drink it straight, you mix it with all sorts of stuff… from hot water, to ooloncha, to grapefruit juice or whatever kind of juice and ice you like!
The picture on the bottom is better shochu. You can still mix it with other things, ooloncha, or juice, hot water, or just ice.
There are so many different kinds, these pictures don’t give any justice to shochu!

ha! yea… they bought out a huge supermarket/department store called ItoYokado ..and now they label all sorts of stuff (generically)
